The Women’s Vinyl Project - Music to End FGM

Donation protected
Who are we?

We are The Women's Vinyl Project. We are creating music to empower girls and women through their voices. Music to End FGM.

Our mission is to spread the message about FGM to help end this painful tradition. We are creating a vinyl full of songs that have, and are, being written in Kenya with many talented musicians, survivors of FGM, and those that were impacted by FGM. Through music, we want to bring awareness, inspire change and empower the voices of women and girls in Kenya. Once the vinyl is created it will be sold and will help to raise money for Zinduka an organisation that is working on the ground in rural communities in Kenya to help stop FGM.

Our collaborations Care Mission Rescue Centre

One of our collaborations is with the Care Mission Rescue Centre. This is an orphanage, and home to 28 girls that have all been saved from FGM. The girls have agreed to be a part of the project and understand that through this project they are helping other girls that may be at risk of FGM. Together with the girls, we have been running opera workshops, songwriting workshops and slowly helping the girls to build confidence on stage. This is important as it can help the girls find their voices, have dreams, and know their rights. We are so proud of the girls, they have already together written two songs which we will perfect in the coming weeks. We can't wait to share these with you! We also have plans to connect those girls with talent and interest to opportunities to further their artistic development.

Be with us on this mission!

Make a donation .. however big or small it counts :)

This project is completely self-funded. I came to Kenya with a vision and I have been working with the help of friends to get this project going. Now 15 songs later, we are at a stage where we need more funding. Your funding can help us to:

Produce the Vinyl
Graphics and design of the Vinyl
Costs of Music production and copyright costs

You can also:

Pre-order a Limited Edition of the vinyl for 100$ +
Please send us a message and we will take care of this :)

WHY I AM HERE ... Antonia... founder of Zinduka, trained Paramedic, natural caring soul, a champion in the eyes of so many girls in Kenya that have been saved from FMG due to her teams efforts.

In WEEK 1 we visited Kibera, the biggest slums in Kenya. Slums were many girls a subject to very poor living conditions.. where rape and underage pregnancy is very common. I sang with girls aged 10-16. One girl Jennifer, who is 11 sang a solo for the first time in her life, in front of a whole room full of people. She was so proud and happy, and asked me to teach her to sing . It is girls like this that can stand up and inspire change for others around her!

Voices have the power to change lives.

Who is behind this?

Hey everyone!

Thank you for your interest in our project! My name is Ruth Harley, I am a street artist and love to sing opera on the streets of Berlin. Growing up  I was incredibly shy, but I always knew I was going to be a singer. I used singing and performing to help me build my confidence.

Singing on the streets I have been overwhelmed by the response and the generosity of strangers. The power of music became even clearer to me, a homeless man once sat by my side and listened, at the end he came over and thanked me giving me coin. I was also once given a note that says :

"I admire your braveness to sing here on the street it lightened up my heart. Don't give up on any dream you have, I'm sure you can reach them. Loads of love from a random stranger with blue hair."

I intend to empower others to find their voice and grow in confidence. We need more bravery in this world and the stage is no better test of that.
