The Negro Leagues Memorial Markers

The Josh Gibson Foundation Memorial Markers is seeking funds to honor the legacy of those Negro League baseball players who played for various teams in the United States.

Sadly when several of these players passed on they were buried in unmarked graves in cemeteries around the Pittsburgh area. The unmarked graves were identified through dedicated research by local teacher and Negro League author, Vincent T. Ciaramella. More information about the players and their histories can be found in Mr. Ciaramella’s book, Greats in the Graveyard. Publishing of the book began a collaboration with the Josh Gibson Foundation to recognize and honor these players.

With the support of donors the Josh Gibson Foundation along with Rome monuments has already been privileged to place stones on the graves of eight Negro League players. Additional monies donated will be used to purchase and install gravestones on the twelve remaining unmarked graves. These players of the Negro Leagues including the Homestead Grays and the Pittsburgh Crawfords have contributed so much to baseball history and should be remembered with the placement of a gravestone.
