The Mitchell's Adoption Fundraiser

Donation protected
About a year and a half ago I found out my egg count was pretty much non-existent.  The doctor told me that I would most likely never be able to have children on my own but referred me to a specialist.  I went to the specialist to see what she had to say and she said that I could probably become pregnant if I did IVF but my odds weren’t very high.

I left the doctor’s office that day feeling pretty deflated. I waited a long time to have kids and never in a million years thought I wouldn’t be able to conceive.   At the time we weren’t sure what we wanted to do, so we decided to wait. Almost a year passed before we started talking about children again.  We both wanted children and knew we would regret it if we never did.  I  started researching adoption last summer.  I’ll be honest, it’s an overwhelmingly scary process but the more I read and talked to JT about it, the more we realized we were meant to adopt.

We started our home study in September 2019.  It took us a few months but we were officially home study approved December 1, 2019.  We fully expected our journey to be rewarding but lengthy based on what we had been told.

Our consultants told us we could potentially be waiting for a child a year or even two.  JT and I were ok with that because we knew that when we did match that it would be meant to be.  This also would have given us the time to save more money for the adoption since it is very expensive. Adoptions these days can range anywhere from $35,000 to $55,000 on average.

Well as luck would have it, an expectant mom picked us a little over 2 weeks after our home study was approved.  We spoke with the expectant mom the day after she picked our adoption profile book and were officially matched December 18, 2019.  We are having a baby girl and she is due May 10, 2020.  We received the best Christmas present ever!

Since matching, life has been moving at warped speed. John and I have had a ton of things going on and we have slowly been letting friends and family know about our exciting journey.  We even had the opportunity to visit the expectant mom in Tacoma, Washington a few weeks ago.  We absolutely adore her.  We have really enjoyed getting to know her and look forward to growing our friendship.

Through out  this process many of you have reached out to us to ask how you could help.  We decided an adoption puzzle would be a great way to capture all of your love and support and help us to offset some of the costs.

Here is what we would like to do.

   ·        The puzzle we picked is called Autumn Bunny by Peppermint Art from Zazzle and it is 520 pieces.

   ·        We are “selling” each piece for $20. You can choose to buy 1, 2, 3, or 10! There is no limit! You can even go half with your roommate!

 ·        Depending on how many pieces you buy, we will write your name on the back of each one.

   ·        Once every single piece has been “sold”, we will put the puzzle together and hang it in a double-sided glass frame.  We plan to hang the puzzle in the baby’s room.

    ·        Once she is old enough, we plan to explain the significance of the puzzle to her.  We want her to understand that every piece of the puzzle represents someone who contributed to the journey of making her a part of our family.

We truly appreciate any financial assistance you give us and thank you for being a part of our exciting journey.
