The Manger: Hope for the Hopeless

No parent should have to make a choice between paying a utility bill and buying a Christmas present for their child. I started THE MANGER to offer a "hand up" to moms and dads who lost their hope when life took an unexpected turn. A job was lost. A child got sick. A husband walked out. THE MANGER provides a way for struggling parents to select and purchase Christmas presents for their own family at a price that fits within their budget. Pre-registered parents will be coming this month to our makeshift Holiday "store," where they will pay just $2 for each person in their household, and then stroll through our displays of new merchandise, purchased with your donations. A single mom can pay just $6 for her family of three, and have the dignity of being a provider. SHE wants to choose. SHE wants to pay. She wants the gifts her children open on Christmas to come from her because she loves them, not from a stranger because she's poor.
100% of your donation goes to purchase new gifts for all ages so that these parents can hold their heads high, be heroes to their kids, and even give back to other families who are facing challenges. Our "donees" become "donors" when they lay their dollars on the table to pay the cashier for their selections. Those dollars and coins received are counted at the end of the night and used immediately to replenish the gift supply for the next day's customers. This giving model creates a 2-way relationship, and that changes everything! There's a shift in mindset when a handout recipient becomes a paying customer. Dignity resurfaces. Hope is restored. They now have something to bring to the table, and that awakens a desire to do more. To give back. To pay it forward. It's not uncommon for us to see a customer leave and then come back inside after loading their car. Not because they forgot something, but to ask for a name tag so they can jump in and volunteer. THE MANGER empowers struggling parents to be providers and givers, and that leads to restored hope that they can rise from their circumstances.
