ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Pablo Tovar is a Mexican writer and director, student of Toronto Film School. His passion for filmmaking drives him to write and direct his own short films, aiming to not only create an entertaining story but also say something with his films, always creating characters and worlds that are relatable.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
When someone close to you cries for help, how do you know you’re listening?
The Man in The Mirror is a tale about the cries for help that we don’t listen to and the guilt that comes after it’s too late, telling a tale of mental health awareness set in a time where this topic was considered taboo or barely acknowledged at all. Having lived firsthand with friends and family who silently yelled for help, but no one listened until it was too late, Pablo wants to portray this experience that happened in his life.
As a lover of Noir Detective Thrillers, Pablo chose this genre to tell this story, not only for his love for this kind of movies, but because of the mysterious, dark, yet human and intimate nature of the genre.
On top of all this, The Man in The Mirror is a reiteration of Mira al Espejo the very first short film Pablo made during high school using just his phone and a lamp. With the intention of turning this story into a proper short film.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR US AND WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
We are looking to raise $1700 CAD for this project. The money we raise will go towards the elements of the production like, production design, locations fees, cast and crew meals, transportation costs, and hair and makeup.
Those who fund our project will receive perks as a thank you for your contributions.
Even if we don’t reach our full goal, all contributions will go directly into making the most complete version of The Man In The Mirror. Every cent gets used with care and creativity.
Your contribution will directly help bring this cinematic vision to life and show what can happen when talented voices are given a chance to tell stories that matter.
RISKS & CHALLENGES
Like any indie film, we face potential hurdles: tight schedules, unpredictable weather during location shooting, or resource constraints.
We’re also shooting locally with a seasoned crew passionate about the material.
This isn’t our first rodeo—we’re ready to bring this story to life, no matter what comes our way.
