Steve Iler’s Medical Issues and Recover From Scam

Dear Kind Hearts,

We are reaching out today as a tight-knit group of co-workers deeply moved by the situation of our colleague's father, Steve, who is bravely confronting a tough period in his life.

Over the past year, Steve’s health has been slowly declining. Sometime between June 28th-29th he suffered from three different strokes. Having history with multiple strokes in the past, Cody and Cole knew the signs and got him to the hospital quickly. The leading cause of the strokes was determined to be a clogged artery in his neck that will require surgery to clean. Upon further evaluation, doctors have found fluid buildup around his lungs, legs, and feet due to untreated diabetes. This indicated that he also has congestive heart failure and will require heart surgery, as well.

To exacerbate an already difficult circumstance, while looking for insurance info (and figuring out what monthly bills may need to be paid) Cody and Cole came to the realization that over the past few months Steve has been victimized by an elaborate online scam that had targeted him due to his recent mental state. Over the past few months, this scam has slowly drained the entirety of his assets as well as opened up lines of credit, stolen his identity/social security, and other government information. Cases have been opened with local police, as well as the FBI. However, due the severe nature of the scam, it has made the recovery of his savings impossible.

About a year ago, Steve had spent a month or so in the hospital battling Covid. Although beating it, he has never fully recovered. Since then he has had a hard time getting back to normalcy, and for the past several months has been living with his oldest son, Cody, who relies on a roommates portion of rent for his mortgage. Combing the financial setback of the scam, mounting medical bills, no income, and already being a few months behind on his portion of rent has placed Cody and Cole in a very difficult situation; to take control and keep Steve’s monthly bills and expenses from falling further behind.

In times of hardship like these, the power of community, and shared compassion, becomes all the more evident. Therefore, we're setting up this GoFundMe to raise as much as we can for the Iler Family. We’re aiming to alleviate the financial pressure on Steve and his sons during this challenging time.
