A Women's Shelter of Hope

Donation protected

Habitat and Hope Village Inc. announces its fund raising campaign- A Women's  Shelter of Hope- a transitional housing facility, in Salem, Oregon, which is aimed at mitigating the crisis of single women at risk of slipping into street homelessness.

As in many places across the country, the numbers of individuals experiencing homelessness has grown dramatically in recent years. The COVID pandemic has exacerbated the problem on many levels. In Marion and Polk counties in Oregon, the most recent census confirms the growth in numbers of our neighbors who "live" in makeshift shelters on downtown streets, parks, and highway underpasses.

Our project- A Women's Shelter of Hope- is an effort to provide transitional shelter for single women who are on the brink of living on the streets of the city. By providing safe and secure interim housing, along with supportive services, A Women's Shelter of Hope will offer residents an opportunity to make changes in their lives that will enable them to transition into permanent housing.

With the distribution of the latest COVID Relief funds to individuals and families, we urge you to consider, if your circumstances allow, to donate all or part of the distribution that you receive to our project.  Your donation of the COVID Relief funds that you receive is an opportunity to share these resources with those in the Salem (OR) community who may not be direct recipients of these payments. The donation of your funds will be used to construct the lodging facility for A Women's Shelter of Hope.

A Women's Shelter of Hope is a project of Habitat and Hope Village Inc, (HHV),  a nonprofit organization formed in 2019 by a small group of members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem (UUCS).  Members of HHV are passionate about alleviating the issue of homelessness in the region and have been working for the past year to bring this project to fruition. The Shelter will be constructed this summer (2021) on a parcel of land in Salem that will be leased from UUCS.

We appreciate your support of this effort to provide  a safe and secure interim home for single women on the brink of street homelessness.

Please note: your donations to Habitat and Hope Village Inc. may be tax deductible as allowed by current IRS regulations.
