In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Eilya Trust is taking steps to raise money to provide food parcels and medical assistance for the poor and vulnerable in Pakistan. Registered England and Wales Charity Number 1186096
With all the will in the world, the governments of poor countries will need to augment their efforts with charitable help from its citizens and international organisations. Eilya Trust aims to help fill the void left by any government intervention in Pakistan. There will be families facing starvation, there will be people who require financial aid for their medical needs, there will be increasing numbers of orphans and widows. Please help us to help them.
60 million people face poverty in Pakistan. The coronavirus pandemic that is now sweeping the nation will lead to further devastation, injuring the people who are already facing dire financial hardship and health complications. Pakistan currently has over 8000 confirmed cases (19 April 2020), this figure will unfortunately rise on a massive scale.
Lockdown restrictions, albeit an inevitable necessary precautionary measure, are severely damaging to the disabled, the widows, the elderly, the poor families across the country and those who have lost their jobs. The fate of Pakistan’s day labourers has been particularly devastating. These low earners have lost their jobs, their only means of providing food and shelter for their families.
The Eilya Trust is working with our local partners focussing on Faisalabad, the third most populous city in Pakistan. We are distributing food and medical parcels to the most vulnerable, primarily targeting, the unemployed, elderly and disabled. Distribution of parcels containing essential food items such as flour, rice, lentils, oil and tea has commenced. Masks, gloves and soap will also be supplied. In addition, Eilya Trust will be providing grants to further the endeavours of our charity partners who are working hard to ease the hardships caused by the pandemic.
