The Chicklet Crew. Winter 2022

HI

2021 has been a challenging year. Albeit triumphant: A shortage of rescuers to help during the summer season is often a problem.

Much of the year has involved quite a few of us drop every aspect of normal living to help save Bird Aid in Hailsham. As from November 27th they succeeded in this campaign. :-) Our work and efforts have emerged unscathed and we are so proud to play a small part in helping several hundred casualties and have set-up a rescue service in the Worthing area.

For 2022

As many know, We are a non profit Volunteer bird rescue team based in different parts in Sussex. Our job is to get casualties to where they need to be in the spare time that we have. we do help, advise and refer where we can and have followers, rehabbers and supporters all around the world.

Our yearly voluntary work runs from spring to mid autumn. By November, we all but shut down for the year. 2021 was very successful for a new tight team that we have, but WE URGENTLY REQUIRE RESCUERS FOR 2022. (Drivers are preferred)

Now the unpleasant part... added Dec 31st 2021

It is well documented that other newcomers over the last couple of years have attempted to cause trouble for us in their pathetic attempts to damage our hard work. The same person has (unsuccessfully) tried to undermine all our work with different officials. On top, another individual has publicly Inferred I am gaining financially from having a fundraiser and this is unacceptable. This fundraiser is no different to any other. We stand alone and are very proud to. Sussex Police continue to be kept informed through my previous work in my 6 year stint as a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator. We do not support, work with or tolerate anyone without a fully checkable background. The world of this kind of rescue work has gotten incredibly ugly and what saddens me is this is much more widespread in the UK than first thought. Respect and old fashioned communication are clearly a thing of the past. The egos involved can be unbearable.

WHO WILL BENEFIT?

Volunteers use their own resources for Petrol costs and time spent in getting to destinations that will range within different areas through Sussex. Lack of facilities mean we will be travelling further afield to get to rescue destinations, as there are several we will not work with in 2022. Some of us are more known in Brighton and Worthing but other areas nearby too. Sadly, often rushing to locations does occasionally result in a parking ticket!! :( Where petrol costs are not needed to be covered, this will allow us to pass on more to charities. All our outgoings are firmly documented and to
date, we have passed on donations to different wildlife rescue centres, plus another wild bird centre (which has since shut down) in a different part of the uk. We have also assisted with raising money for individuals struggling to raise funds for a beloved cat, or dog affected by injuries. It's very all-consuming but I hope the work will continue.

We are looking to eliminate the use of ladders for 2022 so raising money to buy nets on extendable poles will be a priority.

ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL WILDLIFE CHARITY. (We can provide a list of professional bodies if you need help with this) we are not a charity ourselves but a voluntary group.

Wherever you are in the world, Ongoing help is so appreciated.

With grateful thanks to those who continue to stay with us. If you have any questions about what we do, please raise them directly to either myself. Pre-pandemic, this is what was known as communication.  Something that has become absent since the start of Covid 19.

Thank you so much for acknowledging and supporting what we do.
