The Bomber - Elephant Charge Team

Donation protected

‘The Bomber’ is a 1995 Nissan Patrol that has been in our family for over 25 years. This year we will be participating in our 4th Elephant Charge. An annual event in Zambia, Southern Africa, which challenges teams of cars and motorbikes to complete a gruelling course through the Zambian bush.

The Elephant Charge is held to raise money for wildlife conservation in Zambia, focused mainly on conservation through education.

In the twelve years since it began, the event has raised over US$1,031,640.00 which has been distributed to conservation charities and organisations working across the country.  All funds raised by the elephant charge go to Zambian wildlife conservation charities that do amazing work for wildlife conservation in Zambia.

This year is ‘The Bombers’ fourth attempt at the challenging Elephant Charge course, in 2017 in an unexpected turn of events the our hardy Nissan patrol was entered last minute into the Elephant Charge. With no preparations made to take on the gruelling 4x4 challenge of going up and down steep hills, crossing muddy streams and navigating the unknown wilderness the Bomber nearly completed the course almost unscathed bar a few bumps and bruises.

In 2018 we entered ‘The Bomber’ as a new team! We had made significant changes to the car but we unfortunately had our charge dreams come to an early end after our clutch gave out after only 3 checkpoints.

2019 "The Bomber" attacked the charge with an almost entirely new team and a new clutch!! We played it safe and managed to finish the course in good time, even attempting to win the treasure hunt, but were pipped at the post by the Wildlife Petrol Heads.

This year we are yet again changing things up and attempting to win our first Silky Cup with an all GIRLS team!! #GIRLPOWER!

Wildlife conservation is so important in Sub Saharan Africa with the population exploding all over the continent wildlife populations are in danger due to poaching, hunting and urbanisation.

This year is not your average and the Elephant Charge conservation beneficiaries are struggling to protect wildlife populations, habitats and their communities. Since tourism has been so badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, most beneficiaries have lost a big chunk of their income. Please help us to raise as much as possible for them this year!

The Black Rhino is a perfect example of what your support can do to help Zambia’s wildlife. In the 1980’s Zambia Black rhino population was poached to extinction. In 2003 a small population was reintroduced into North Luangwa National Park thanks to the help of the Frankfurt Zoological Society. This population has now grown and is under the amazing protection North Luangwa Conservation Project.

One of Africa’s most endangered carnivores the wild dog has been eliminated from most countries it once occurred in and Zambia is one of six countries with viable populations of this species, with the largest populations centered in the Greater Kafue and Luangwa valley ecosystems. One of the beneficiaries of the Elephant Charge, the Zambian Carnivore Program helps these amazing social pack animals thrive in our beloved country.

The Pangolin is the most illegally trafficked animal in the world! This peculiar looking yet adorable little creature is captured for it scales, skin and meat to be sold on the international black market.

Conservation Lower Zambezi one of the beneficiaries of the Elephant Charge has helped release numerous pangolins back into the wild. All of which were confiscated from poachers to be sold.

The Bomber team loves this animal so much we even have one as our team mascot. Sergeant Major Dynamite was kindly donated to us in 2018 from Little Ndaba!

We would really appreciate your help in raising funds for our team, ‘The Bomber’ has been old faithful to our family for the last 25 years, and having been our companion on many safaris she has been a witness to Zambia’s incredible wildlife and now she would like to help protect it!

You can support us by donating any amount, every little bit counts.

On behalf of Zambia’s wildlife, thank you!
