The Barbell Saves Project

Hi, my name is Rob Best and I am an Arizona native. I have been in recovery from a drug and alcohol addiction for over six years. My life, before finally getting and staying sober, was ugly and hard. My relationships were strained almost to the point of no repair, I did not know how things could ever be different.

Eventually, I made it into recovery. It took some time to figure out what I needed to change and to do stay sober,  Finding a CrossFit gym and the community that comes with it was a part of the transformation that has kept me sober.
Today, I am married to a wonderful woman and we are raising two smart, funny and sweet boys together. We own a CrossFit box in Phoenix, AZ, founded with the focus of building a strong community which supports and builds each and every member. We are ready, with the encouragement and support of our family and friends, to start the next part of our vision, The Barbell Saves Project.

The Barbell Saves Project  is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and was built with a clear vision, ‘heal the body to save the mind.’  We aim to empower those seeking recovery to achieve long-term success and well-being through a community-based fitness and health program. We believe strongly in the use of physical fitness, community, and nutrition to support people in recovery.

The barbell is another tool to bring people from the darkness of addiction into a new, better and freer way of living. We have seen firsthand how getting connected to other people and working hard together, keeps people coming back and helps them stay sober. Members have shared with us that being a part of this particular community is one of the things that keeps them coming back and staying strong when life is hard and complicated.

The Barbell Saves Project, through the support of your donations, provides membership to individuals in recovery to community-based exercise classes in Phoenix, AZ. Additionally, our coaches provide nutrition information and support to bolster physical and mental recovery.
