Finish shooting for "The Afters", Rave & COVID Short Film

Hey, this is Simon and Aidan, the producer and the director of “The Afters.” We’re raising funds to finish shooting our film and we need your help!

“The Afters” is the story of a friendship breakup in the MTL rave scene during post-Covid reopening. It follows Lyra and Ruby over the course of a bender weekend, when a mistake by Lyra forces them to confront the rift in their relationship.

Really, the film is about young people trying to make sense of themselves, their future, and their relationships after the impact of the pandemic. The film is a memento of a time and dynamic we’d all prefer to forget, but that we the team feel is vitally important to remember.

Due to a flood in downtown Montréal, one of our locations was destroyed and we had to postpone the film’s final shoot. Now, we have our remaining scenes planned but lack the funds to finance them. Help us tell a story for and about young people post-pandemic - please donate what you can or share to complete “The Afters”!

The Team:

Aidan McMahon, Director: For the past two years Aidan has been creating films about the Montreal rave scene. They have culminated in “The Afters”, which draws on the style, ideas and narrative threads of all his past rave films.

Simon Rock, Producer: Simon Rock is a producer and event organizer. For the past 8 years, he has been organizing ambitious underground parties and managing creative projects.

Léa Barsalou, DOP: Léa is a DOP from Montreal who has shot for short films, documentaries, dance and music videos. Léa and Aidan have worked together since his first short film, Lyra. In 2022, she received the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television's Emerging Talent Award.

Sophie Fekete, Lyra: Sophie is a former dancer turned actor who starred in the upcoming feature “La Mécanique des Frontières.” She has studied in renowned acting schools in London and New York, including the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

Coralie Gauthier, Ruby: Coralie is a multidisciplinary musician and performer, having studied classical harp at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal before exploring a more heterodox practice of her instrument. “The Afters” has been her first opportunity to act after she was scouted by the director.
