RUN FOR KELLY

Donation protected
Hi I’m Sam.. Kelly’s baby brother..

Im Sharing kellys story on her behalf..

June 15th, 2021- Kelly had severe chest pain and was diagnosis with pneumonia.

July 20th - 2021 - kelly 41st birthday - she was admitted to the Portland hospital to have 1l of fluid drained from her lungs..

Start of August- she was Transfered to the Geelong hospital for her first biopsy of her chest.. as she described a ( a garden hose) was inserted in her left side of her chest..

After 2 weeks of waiting for results in the Geelong hospital, All alone, she was transfered to the Portland hospital after not finding any answers.

She was released for 2 days to see family for the first time in 1 month, then returned back to Portland hospital for 12 days where she was placed on morphine..

Pain was unmanageable and A plane trip to Geelong for another biopsy through her left breast where she received the news..

Mid September - Kelly had been diagnosed with Mesothelioma… A rare disease caused by Asbestos.. AND WAS UNCURABLE…

She has 12-18 months to live..

For the next 2 weeks it was all Trying to get Kelly pain free…..

She was given a driver ( a pump that attaches to the stomach and delivers drugs 24 /7) and was able to return to her home…

A pallative care team was now in place to go to Kelly’s home at 2pm every day to change drivers and give more medication..

Second big sister Casey and partner Shaun were now full time carers for Kelly…

Not long after being sent home, she returned to hosy to get the pump removed as Kelly wasn’t functioning properly, ( very drowsy, couldn’t hold conversation, no coordination)

What was worse, she had lost a tremendous amount of weight and weighed in at 49kg..

This treatment process didn’t work… the pain was to much…

The hospital decided to send her back home with the driver however with a Less potent dosage….

This wasn’t the most convient thing to lug around.. So we got onto A slow release drug in tablet form and that was a success..

Kelly had now lost the pump and had a little more confidence back….

Mid to late November, every fortnight on Thursdays, Kelly was to start an
immunetherapy to keep the cancer at bay as she couldnt have normal chemo being incurable…

Immune therapy was going well, Kellys pain was finally easing… (YAYYY!!!)

Casey then noticed Kelly’s left hand was slowly losing function and brought it to the docs attention..

The docs requested A CT scan

Dec 23rd, 2021 - Kelly received her results and found she had tumor on her brain ( which was mesothelioma) the size of a 20c piece….
( this explained the loss of feeling in the left side)

Jan 4 2022, Kelly was admitted to St Vincent hospital in Melbourne to have open brain surgery…

After recovering like a warrior, after 1 week
She was Transferred to warnambool hospital where she stayed for another week, then was released home…

Her left hand/arm was still with out function so hand therapy was started..

Severe headaches and swollen lymph nodes continued to cause Kelly more pain post surgery….

Jan 27th- radiation was confirmed to Reduce the risk of regrowth and to hopefully help reduce the lymph nodes…..

Radiation kicks off on 8th of February….

Thats the situation soo far…

Kelly has 2 kids and 2 Grandkids…

My mission now is to raise some money for her treatments and to tick off some of her bucket list items for her…

Her bucket list isn’t outrageous, ( not yet anyways) and everything she wants to achieve is definitely doable..
