My name is Jenny Ladenburger. My husband Luke and I have just had our first child. Our son, Zane arrived on March 26. He arrived seven weeks early, and weighed four pounds, fifteen ounces. He was born with a Congenital Diaphragmic Hernia and Transposition Of The Great Arteries.
This diaphramatic hernia created a gap in his chest cavity. This caused his liver to move up into his chest, which pushed up and displaced his right lung which has hardly developed because of this issue. His left lung had developed somewhat normally, but being born early made it under developed and collapsed when he was born.
The Transposition of the Great Arteries made his pulmonary artery and aorta to be transposed. This makes the red blood (oxygenated) go to his lungs, and the blue blood (deoxygenated) goes to the rest of the body. Currently Zane is on a heart/lung bypass machine called an ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation is a mechanical system that temporarily takes over the function of the lungs in patients with acute respiratory failure.) It is serving as the means of life support for Zane.
Saturday March 31 Zane underwent surgery to correct the diaphragmic hernia, which went well. This gave the right lung more room and put his liver in the correct spot. The doctors are working to make him stronger so that he may be strong enough to survive the necessary impending surgery on his heart. Right now both his lungs are deflated and the specialists are trying to get them to respond. To move forward we need to see his lungs stronger & functional.
Prayers would be greatly appreciated as well as any funds we can raise.
The money we raise will go for everyday expenses (food,gas, bills) since I won’t be able to return to work for some time, as well as expenses for Zane and possibly the purchase of a modest vehicle since we only possess one car which Zane’s father must use to travel to his job. Travel time between home and the hospital is an hour one way.
We are at the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Florida Hospital, Orlando. We are blessed to have some of the best doctors available in the nation.
