Adam and Jess were so excited as they shared the news that they were expecting their first child together and the first son for either of them. Little did they know what would be to come. Jess’ pregnancy began to have complications early on that led to her being put on bed rest, meaning she had to stop working. Baby Asher seemed determined to make his arrival earlier than planned and he ended up doing just that. Though he was due on December 11, Asher Salem was born on November 13, 2020, several weeks early.
Unfortunately, the excitement of his arrival was quickly replaced with concern. Asher had breathing difficulties immediately and had to be whisked to the NICU where it was determined that he had Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension, a life-threatening condition. He was not responding well to the treatments and medications provided there so he was transported to the Children’s Hospital at MUSC. Jess’ doctors quickly worked to release her from the hospital (after having just given birth following a 30 hour labor) so that she and Adam could join baby Asher at MUSC.

ver, he still has quite a bit of healing to do and the Pulmonary Hypertension persists. In the meantime, Jess will not be able to work as Asher will be in the hospital for some time and then will require significant care and will need to be kept away from potential exposure to illnesses, especially considering COVID-19 and his lung issues. Additionally, Adam has to take more time off from work than he had planned. While their income is drastically cut, their expenses are increasing. To say nothing of hospital costs, there are the costs of fuel to get back and forth to the hospital, meals while at the hospital, supplies for the baby and regular living expenses. If you are able, please help Adam, Jess and Asher (and their girls). We know that money cannot fix Asher’s heart and lungs, but it can alleviate some stress allowing Adam and Jess to focus on Asher and his health. Please send plenty of prayers and good thoughts and if you're able please donate. All funds raised will go directly to Adam and Jess.
