Teaching young adults in Myanmar

We are Matus, Andrea G and Andrea S, a group of three engineering students from Edinburgh Napier University.

Three years ago, one of our lecturers (Kate) decided to travel to Myanmar to work with the registered charity Ahtutu – see www.ahtutucharity.org.uk - and this year we decided to join her.

Next January, we will be going in a two week volunteering trip to Myanmar with Mary( Ahtutu's founder), Kate and the rest of the charity team to teach English to 18-30 year old’s to help them enhance their future job prospects.

Myanmar is the poorest country in Asia which is still in the process of emerging from the brutal military regime which began in 1969.  Therefore, it is important for this young adults to learn English as this will give them more opportunities inside and outside their country.


We are raising funds to cover our fights, visa and accommodation. Any money raised that exceeds the costs of the trip, will go to the charity Ahtutu and all the projects they support. In January 2018 they assisted in the teaching of English and supported a range of projects including work in the local boys' orphanage and sanitary kits for a local village and a girl’s orphanage.

We are very excited to being part of this project that will help young adults like ourselves get greater opportunities. We are looking forward to exploring this country, broadening our perspectives about the world and learning as much as we can on the way.
