Helping those who help our children
My family and I are so grateful to be a part of the community at the Montessori House. When we flooded this past year, we had so much help from the school, faculty/staff, and parents. We feel fortunate to
have had so much help from so many amazing people and to now be back in our house. We also received help from FEMA and a loan from the SBA.
We know that not everyone is as fortunate as us to have had access to the funds, friends, and loans as we were. I was dismayed to learn that there are still teachers and administrative staff at our school who have not even had their walls replaced.
I remember how frustrated I was to walk inside my empty home and to see missing walls.
It was depressing and made me feel like I wasn't a good father/provider. I can only imagine how it feels to still be in that situation nearly 7 months later.
Everyday we drop our children off at the Montessori House for Children. We rely on the teachers and staff members to care for our children. And they do an amazing job. The teachers nurture our children and help them grow. And the staff is always smiling and helpful for them as well. My girls love their teachers, and I know they love our girls in return. I am sure the same is true for you.
It angers me to know that many of these people who work so hard to help our children feel safe and develop skills for the rest of their life cannot even go to their home without the stress of the flood hanging over them.
Imagine going home to a house with no walls up, worrying about whether or not you're going to have a leak because it is supposed to rain again this weekend. Would you feel comfortable?
Imagine having to use a hotplate to cook your dinner because your kitchen is destroyed and the SBA didn't grant you a loan. And then having to do your dishes in the bathtub because you still don't have a kitchen sink. Would you feel at home?
If you were in this situation, could you go into work day in, day out, and provide a loving and caring environment for children? Every day these teachers rise to the challenge. Despite the stress, they are loving and caring for our children.
Now I think it is time for us to help them.
My wife and I decided to start this GoFundMe page to help our community. The school has given us permission to raise money for teachers and staff affected by the flood.
We are still figuring out logistics of how to pay for all our repairs, but we are going to start the fundraising by donating $500 to the campaign. I hope that you will also decide to contribute as well.
Every donation will help and will be divided equally among the affected teachers and staff.
Please contribute today and help make a difference in the lives of those we depend on to watch over the safety and development of our children.
