Hi, my name is Nik Schmidt and I am the founder of The Clean Lands Project (TCLP).
The Clean Lands Project was created out of goodwill for the environment in March 2019. I was a sophomore attending FGCU when I was inspired to begin conducting weekly trash cleanups in the Fort Myers area. My selfless efforts caught the eye of many people which led to the creation of TCLP. Over the last 3 years, we have collected and facilitated the disposal of over 4,000 lbs of litter.
In October of 2021, we were able to raise $500 over night from the help of a few friends. Those funds went towards helping Mike, Bella (Mike's dog), Johnson, and a few other homeless individuals around the Trinity, Florida area. These were all people that we had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know on a personal level. We have shared many conversations, laughs, hugs, fist bumps, and moments that only came about because we were genuinely interested in getting to know each of them and their stories.
The funds that we raised went towards buying 2 tents, 15 meals, 3 nights at a camp ground for Mike, his dog (Bella), and his ex-wife, a trip to the dollar store for Mike and Bella, 2 loads of laundry, a kitchen mat, and a prepaid phone. For Thanksgiving, we were able to donate 13 boxes of stuffing, 2 tubs of butter, and 2 cans of cranberries to a local restaurant, Juan-A-Taco, that was giving away free meals to the hungry.
We are now asking for your support to help us continue making an impact. Your contribution can come in the form of a donation OR through volunteering in any of our Trash Cleanups. Our trash cleanups have evolved into a decentralized way to expand our impact across on a more global scale. Anyone who participates will also receive a FREE TCLP NFT. With the funds that we receive from your donation(s) we will be able to make purchases to improve the quality of life for homeless communities, cater community events that give back to our volunteers, and fund research projects to further understand the logistics associated with establishing a successful circular economy.
We have maintained a spreadsheet that shows who has donated to our organization, how much they donated, items purchased with those funds, how much money was spent on each item and the date that the item was purchased. We plan on maintaining the same level of transparency for all of our future donations and donors.
