Hafa Adai Family and Friends,

 

As you all may know our Mother has recently passed away on September 19, 2021 in California. We want to bring her home to Guam where she will be laid to rest peacefully.

 

For those of you who may have not known our Mother's story, she was first diagnosed with cancer in January of 2011 then was treated with chemotherapy and radiation. Luckily, she was in remission for seven years until the same cancer started growing back in August of 2018 in her colon. Since then, her doctors tried to treat it with a major surgery to place a colostomy bag then followed by chemotherapy treatment. Sadly, in March of 2021, our Mother had developed a vaginal fistula that made the quality of her life so unbearable that her primary doctors referred her to seek surgical treatment in California. In May of 2021 was the start of her hospitalization journey at Keck Hospital of USC in Los Angeles. In June of 2021 doctors performed a major surgery to place a urostomy bag and to fix other issues causing the vaginal fistula. After being hospitalized for nearly four months, our Mother and the rest of our family were devastated with the news that her cancer was growing more aggressively and could not be treated with chemotherapy nor could be surgically removed. On August 27th, our Mother was given a 1-2 months life expectancy and was told that hospice was the next best step to try to enjoy the rest of her days. On September 4th, she was discharged from the hospital and resided with family in Menifee, California. Sadly, after only being in hospice for two weeks, she had passed away while being surrounded by her cherished loved ones on September 19th, 2021.

 

She was the best partner, mother, grandmother and sister a family could have ever asked for and we are entirely lost without her. We are overwhelmed by all the love and support shown thus far and cannot thank you all enough during this difficult time for our family. Many people have been reaching out to us to see how they can help. With the help of your kind donations it will help cover the cost of airfare to bring her home to Guam and with any of the remaining funds we will put towards the funeral arrangements.
