Swim Bike Run for Men's Jail books

Spende geschützt
John just turned 60. He is pursuing his first Triathlon. Training 6 days a week in either swimming, running or cycling, he is hard at play preparing his body for the rigors and excitement of the Big Bear "Sprint" Triathlon being held June 24, 2017, Big Bear Lake, CA.

Summer 2017 not only marks John's first attempt at completing a Triathlon, it also marks his 4th year volunteering as a Buddhist Chaplain inside MCJ (Men's Central Jail), Los Angeles, CA.

Will you help provide funds for books for inmates?

John is dedicating his Triathlon efforts to the men and women of MCJ, both uniformed and incarcerated. It's a tough place to be for everyone.

This campaign is active only until June 24, the day of the Triathlon! Please share on FaceBook & Instagram.

John's Sprint Triathlon will cover over 18 miles.
Will you pledge $1 per mile (or more) to help buy books for inmates of MCJ?

An $18 pledge (or more) from you can bring rays of sunlight into a building with no windows.

That's right, MCJ secure areas have no windows, no fresh air. Those inside see no sky, no earth, no clouds, no greenery, no sunshine, no rain.

MCJ is one of the LASD's (Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department) 7 custody facilities. LASD is responsible for securing nearly 18,000 inmates; it is the largest jail system in the United States. MCJ houses over 5500 inmates on any given day.

For over 8 hours every Tuesday John enters the secure detention areas of MCJ where he listens to and speaks with inmates from many faiths. Facilitating 4 Mindfulness Meditation classes in different areas of the jail has provided him the opportunity to share the simple, transformative practices of mindfulness and compassion meditations with 1000s of incarcerated men over the years.

One of the greatest supports for these men during their stay in MCJ (lasting from a few months to over 5 years) is reading material that inspires and comforts them in this most challenging time of their life.

Will you donate now $18 (or more) by June 24 to help buy books for inmates? Please share on FaceBook & Instagram.

Training and competing in a Triathlon demands many hours of running and cycling outdoors. 10s of 1000s of metres swimming in lakes, pools, and if you are as lucky as John, in the Pacific Ocean.

While working through this training regime, the faces and stories of MCJ inmates often come vividly to mind. The contrast of those held in jail cells and the freedom to "sweat it out" on a 13 mile bike ride is never lost to John.

Please donate $18 (or more) by June 24 to support the purchase of books for inmates. Please share on FaceBook & Instagram.

Big Bear Lake is one of the country's most scenic settings for a Triathlon. 6500 feet high in the San Bernardino Mountains, with fragrant pines, expansive meadows and a cool fresh water lake, nature manifests its relaxed healing qualities with ease.

As the natural world can heal us from the outside, so too can a good book heal us from the inside.

Please do not forget those who are in jail, their families who are suffering without them, and the community to which they may soon return.

Please help by donating $18 (or more) by June 24. Please share on FaceBook & Instagram.
