Sweet Sugie- Medical and Surgery Costs
Spende geschützt
Hi Everyone!
As most of you know back in August I adopted my sweet pup, Sugie Mae. Sugie came to New Jersey from Houston Texas after her previous owner passed away. Sugie is approximately 10 years old and she is a chihuahua corgi tri-paw! She is the sweetest companion and has filled my life and heart with so much love.
In October, Sugie was vomiting constantly, which ended us with an emergency vet visit. Sugie had blood testing and it was discovered that her calcium levels were high. Being she was quite chunky at the time (18 pounds), the vet recommended she lose some weight and hopefully her calcium levels would return back to normal.
Two weeks ago, Sugie had her follow up appointment where she had another blood test. After finding out Sugie lost 3 pounds (yay!) we were hopeful her levels returned to normal. However, a few days later, we found out that Sugie’s calcium level had increased. This right away was a concern, as high calcium levels could indicate many serious illnesses.
1 week later, Sugie had received an additional blood test for Ionized Calcium and Parathyroid hormones along with an X-ray. After these tests, it was discovered that Sugie has a tumor on her parathyroid hormone gland. If the tumor is not removed, her body will continue to create excessive amounts of calcium. If her calcium levels reach 2.0, other parts of her body will become affected and she will begin to go into kidney failure. From there, it will only be a matter of time. Her calcium level is currently 1.8. The only way to prevent this is by having surgery to remove the tumor.
This diagnosis has thrown me for a loop financially. The surgery is estimated to be $6,000. After surgery, she will need blood testing done once a week, for 8 weeks, to ensure her calcium levels have returned to a healthy level. Between the surgery needed, blood tests, x-rays and ultrasounds, I unfortunately can not afford this on my own. Sugie and I would greatly appreciate any help that is given. Sugie will be having surgery within the next 1-2 months.
My sweet girl and I haven’t had nearly enough time together. We are hoping and praying this surgery keeps her around for many more years to come.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you to everyone who has been checking on Sugie over the last few weeks.
Everyone’s love and kindness has been overwhelming.
