German & Maribel Hurricane Relief

My name is Maria Rivera. I’ve created this campaign on behalf of my brother German González and his wife Maribel who were left devastated by Hurricane María. German and Maribel live in Bayamón which is a municipality of Puerto Rico located on the northern coastal valley. My brother is 60 years old. Although he was born in New York, he made his residence in PR many years ago. He is diabetic and wears glasses but can barely see. His wife had just been released from the hospital when the hurricane hit the island. Maria’s wrath was felt all over the island of Puerto Rico. Bayamón received strong winds that tore down trees, destroyed roofs, walls, light poles, and everything in its path. The rain continued for days without mercy. Their house was like many of the houses in PR made of wood and metal. For that reason they had to seek shelter somewhere else. They stayed in a safe house across from their own home anticipating the worst. As my brother and his wife looked through a hole in the window; they saw the walls of their home fly away. This vision consumed them. They held each other tears running down their cheeks; deciding not to look outside again until after the hurricane was over. When all was calm they emerged from their shelter to see their house missing. Walls and everything inside the house was wet and destroyed. Like many of the residents in PR my brother is very poor and does not of have the funds to rebuild his house. He doesn’t have insurance which makes it worst. Your donations will help them get the materials to rebuild. Like millions of Puerto Ricans my brother does not know what lies ahead, but his faith and love for others will help him and his wife have hope again. Hurricane María left many homeless including my dear brother but Puerto Rican’s are resilient people. Thank you all for your generosity and kindness and God bless you.
