Lanzamos esta campaña de recaudación de fondos con el objetivo de continuar haciendo periodismo de investigación en Guatemala.

Durante el 2020 los medios digitales Artículo 35   y Vox Populi   han publicado una serie de reportajes e investigaciones sobre corrupción, abuso de poder, tráfico de influencias y manipulación de la Ley Electoral.

Ambos proyectos fueron creados y coordinados por los periodistas Marvin Del Cid y  Sonny Figueroa   , quienes tienen amplia experiencia, vocación y pasión por el periodismo, que es un pilar fundamental de la democracia guatemalteca.

Sonny y Marvin son parte de la junta de la Asociación Artículo 35 una entidad que promueve y defiende la libertad de expresión, libertad de prensa, libertad de opinión, el acceso a la información y la transparencia.

A raíz de los reportajes publicados por ambos periodistas han sido hostigados por funcionarios del Gobierno de Guatemala, entre ellos, el mismo presidente Alejandro Giammattei, los ha atacado públicamente y ha tratado de desprestigiar su trabajo.

Los periodistas Marvin Del Cid y Sonny Figueroa también han sido intimidados y hostigados por agentes de la Policía Nacional Civil de Guatemala (PNC) y de la Secretaría de Asuntos Administrativos y Seguridad de la Presidencia (SAAS).

¿Por qué colaborar?

Artículo 35 y Vox Populi luchan contra la corrupción, promueven la transparencia y fomentan la fiscalización ciudadana a través de contenido periodístico de investigación basado en la denuncia pública de la utilización incorrecta de recursos del Estado.

El periodismo independiente es fundamental en países como Guatemala en donde su frágil y débil democracia requiere periodistas comprometidos con su trabajo, periodistas que tengan el compromiso de investigar, fiscalizar e informar.

Desde su inicio, Artículo 35 y Vox Populi han sido financiados por sus mismos creadores, sin embargo, los recursos son limitados. Por eso, es necesario contar con el apoyo de la ciudadanía para continuar haciendo periodismo independiente y sin ataduras.

La impunidad, la corrupción y el abuso de poder siguen avanzando en Guatemala. Debemos seguir investigando.

Supporting Independent Voices! Investigative Journalism

We are launching this fundraising campaign with the aim of continuing to do investigative journalism in Guatemala.

During 2020, digital media Article 35  and Vox Populi  have published a series of reports and investigations on corruption, abuse of power, influence peddling, manipulation the voting systems and breaking the Electoral Law.

Both digital communication media projects were created and coordinated by journalists Marvin Del Cid  and Sonny Figueroa , who have extensive experience, vocation and passion for journalism, which is a fundamental pillar of Guatemalan democracy.

Sonny and Marvin are part of the board of the Association Article 35, an entity that promotes and defends freedom of expression, freedom of the press, freedom of opinion, access to information and transparency.

As a result of the published articles; both journalists have been harassed by Guatemalan government officials, including President Alejandro Giammattei himself, who has openly attacked them and tried to discredit their work.

Journalists Marvin Del Cid and Sonny Figueroa have also been intimidated and harassed by National Civil Police agents (PNC) and the Presidential Secretariat for Administrative Affairs and Security  (SAAS).

Reasons to Support Us

Article 35 and Vox Populi fight against corruption, promote transparency and encourage citizen oversight through investigative journalistic content based on the public condemnation on embezzlement.

Independent journalism is essential in countries like Guatemala where the democracy is fragile and weak; it requires journalists committed to their work, journalists who are committed to investigating, oversee and reporting the corruption.

Since their inception, Article 35 and Vox Populi have been funded by the  founders, however, resources are limited. Therefore, it is necessary to have the support from critical consciousness citizenship and others supporters willing to support; to continue doing independent journalism without curtailment.

For the time being, mpunity, corruption and abuse of power will continue to advance in Guatemala. We must continue impact investing to reinforce our brittle democracy.
