Support Minnesota Families of Police Violence

Hi! My name is Lorraine, I’m setting up this
gofundme for my best friend Toshira Garraway, and her group, to help support the families that share lived experiences.

George Floyd is the face of hundreds of minority men who have lost their lives at the hands of police here in the state of Minnesota.  In the past 20 years, there have been more than 400 families who have lost a family member at the hands of the Minnesota police force.  For many years, the victims of police violence have left these families hurting, suffering in pain, alone, and isolated in fear without justice.

One of these families is my best friend, Toshira Garraway.  In 2009, Toshira’s life was turned upside down when she suddenly lost the love of her life.  Toshira’s fiancé, Justin Tiegen, the father of their then 3-year old son, Justin Jr., was killed by the St. Paul police. His body was thrown in a dumpster, broken, skull cracked in half, battered, riddled with dog bites, bloodied, and found by the workers of Waste Management & Recycling. Justin was lynched.

Since 2009, Toshira has fought tirelessly to not only bring attention and justice to the atrocities of what happened to Justin but also to bring attention and support for the families in the State of Minnesota and other states who also have experienced the loss of a family member to police violence. 

In 2019, Toshira organized her first support group for Families Against Police Violence.  The adjacent photo represents multiple families who have lost loved ones at the hands of police officers. As of this week, there are now over 15 families represented by this group.   

Toshira has organized support and opportunities for the families of loved ones who have died at the hands of the police.  These individuals now have a “voice” and platform to share their stories, encouragement, support with each other, and to advocate for systemic change.

My prayers go out to the countless families who have lost their lives at the hands of those who have sworn an oath to protect and serve, and whose stories have not been told. 

We are one community, one people and we must stand shoulder-to-shoulder and carve out this cancer that haunts, and terrorizes communities of color. Together we can help heal our country of division and hatred. I believe that a better tomorrow is around the corner if we all come together as one.


All proceeds will go to supporting the family’s, and policy initiatives to recognize our humanity.
