Support AWDTSG Women Being Sued by an Angry Man

My name is Paola Sanchez, and I’m the founder of “Are We Dating The Same Guy?”, which is a network of over 200 Facebook groups all across the world designed to help keep women safe while dating.

I’m also 1 of the 27 women who have been personally named in a “defamation” lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Chicago that has garnered national attention, along with some of our current and former moderators.

I originally didn’t want to make a big deal out of this but, with the continued press coverage about it, it’s turned into an issue that needs to be addressed.

We plan to aggressively fight the lawsuit and hope to set a precedent by showing that these groups are made to keep women safe, that lawsuits meant to stifle free speech are not acceptable, that coming after volunteers for trying to help other women will not be tolerated, and to show that some individuals will cry “defamation” even about true statements.

It’s unfortunate that the media picked up the story days after it was simply filed. Anyone is allowed to sue anyone in this country for any reason should they so choose, but that doesn’t mean they have any chance of winning. I’m confident that we’ll prevail in this.

A lot of people have been asking us how they can help, so I wanted to create this fundraiser. I have been told that I’ll need to hire legal counsel in Illinois regardless of the merits of this case, and I’m hoping to hire the best legal counsel I can to represent me and our moderators, as well as provide guidance and support for the group members and family members who were wrongfully included.

I've done some research and consulted with a few people on possible costs for fighting a lawsuit like this, and the general answer has been that it's very difficult to accurately predict what the costs will be ahead of time. But any ballpark guesses I've been given have ranged from roughly $10,000 to $40,000 should it go to trial, so I set the goal of this campaign to be something between those.

All contributions to this campaign will be put towards counsel for this lawsuit, and any remainder will be put towards counsel for any future similar lawsuits, any other legal fees associated with running these groups or the app I'm building to expand upon them, and/or will be held in reserve as a war chest to help deter future frivolous lawsuits against those who volunteer hundreds of hours of their time for free to provide this resource for millions of women.

We’ll get through this and we’ll fight it to the very best of our ability, and any help is greatly appreciated ❤️ Hopefully we can use this as an example that a lot of those that come after us are really just trying to keep the truth hidden, and hopefully this case can ultimately help protect groups like this all across the country by proving to those watching that our mission is about truth and protection.

Thank you for any help you’re able to give.

Paola ❤️
