It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we share this story of 8-year old Briyan Steadman.

On June 25th, after arriving home, Mark and his wife Mariya found Briyan unresponsive following his nap. Despite their quick efforts with CPR and the arrival of emergency medical services, Briyan was airlifted to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, where he has remained on life support. Briyan suffered irreversible brain damage after his shunt—a critical device installed due to water on the brain—failed. He is currently only sustained by a ventilator.

Despite the immense pain, Mark and Mariya made the courageous and selfless decision to make Briyan an organ donor. Briyan’s universal blood type and strong spirit mean his organs have the potential to save many lives. As of July 7, his medical team confirmed that his blood medication levels have finally reached the necessary threshold (2.4), allowing the organ donation process to begin.

From the very beginning, Briyan was a miracle. He defied all odds with resilience, a bright spirit, and an infectious smile that lit up every room. He loved animals, music, and all things colorful. Though he was nonverbal, he expressed his love and compassion through the sweetest gestures. He was known for offering quiet comfort to classmates and for being fiercely loved by his family—his parents Mark and Mariya, his big sister Sofiya, his teachers, and friends.

The Steadmans have remained by Briyan’s side throughout this heartbreaking journey and have not been working. Though they have received support from the community, the financial burden is growing. If you are able to help in any way—it would make a meaningful difference.

Briyan came into this world a miracle and leaves it as an answer to someone else’s prayers. Please continue to lift the Steadman family in prayer, hug your loved ones a little tighter, and honor Briyan by choosing to see abilities, not disabilities, in others.
