Logan Daniel Fauls joined our family on July 22, 2018, six weeks ahead of his due date. Though his birth was joyfully awaited and his arrival was wrapped in love, it was a rough start for Logan and for his loving parents, Dan and Krystal. Precious Logan spent his first days gently protected in a NICU incubator because he was so fragile. As he was busy gaining strength, his mother began to notice something different about Logan. Examination by the doctors and a CT scan confirmed that Logan has a condition called metopic craniosynostostis. A suture in Logan’s skull fused too early, and it has to be released in order for his brain to grow properly. Dan and Krystal were given the heartbreaking news that their baby boy needed surgery, and they began to pray and to research all of their options.
Here in Michigan, most of the doctors recommended a very invasive approach called Cranial Vault Remodel (CVR). It would involve a large incision, and a surgeon would have to remove and reshape Logan’s skull. As Krystal continued to investigate Logan’s options; however, another door of opportunity opened. There is a less invasive endoscopic approach to correct metopic craniosynostosis. The neurosurgeon who pioneered the endoscopic approach has had amazing results with other children like Logan, and Logan is scheduled for surgery with him on November 8th in Texas.
As plans fall rapidly into place, please pray for Logan and for his family! Dan and Krystal have handled this heartbreaking situation with strength and love, but the emotional weight is so heavy. The financial burden is also very heavy. Getting access to the best help for Logan means traveling to the doctor with the greatest experience and results, but travel is expensive! Dan and Krystal have already faced great financial struggle this year, and the funds for a trip like this simply are not available.
