Hello there!
In 2023, my husband and I spent a month in a Buddhist monastery in Sri Lanka teaching English to kids and monks. We met some of the most incredible people we have ever met.
Full of compassion, love, and acceptance.
We thought we were teaching them something, but they were actually the ones teaching us something important: always be here for each other.
Today we are giving back.
Last year, a huge flood affected Sri Lanka due to the cyclone Ditwah. The village, monastery, and schools were largely affected. A lot of the kids saw their homes destroyed and lost their clothes, school supplies, and books.
The monastery we stayed at helped as much as they could, but it wasn't enough.
Today, I decided to raise money for two important causes:
- First, for Shehan, a young student who got accepted into a prestigious university in Colombo for a Bachelor's degree in engineering. He worked very hard, but his family lost a lot last year in the cyclone Ditwah. In order for him to be accepted and be part of the program, he needs to buy a specific laptop with high capacity. He contacted me feeling "ashamed" to ask for help. It broke my heart that he would feel that way, and I told him that I would find a way to help him.
- The second cause is the monastery. They have been buying school supplies and shoes for the kids who lost everything last year. But they don't really "own" money as a monastery; they can raise money, but in the last few months, it has been hard.
What can you do?
If today you can spare anything, even as small as $1 to help them, it would be an incredible gift.
All together, we can help them.
Thank you for them!
