Support Sayville Veterans in Need

The Smith-Wever Post 651, located in Sayville, is seeking assistance for a replacement wheelchair lift. The Post was formed in 1926 and is a nonprofit veterans organization named after two Sayville residents who lost their lives in WWI.

We are family, a place for everyone: veterans (Legionnaires), military spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters (Auxiliary), and all male descendants of those who served (Sons of American Legionnaires). We are committed to our community with the same dedication as those who served our nation by providing essential services for veterans and our current military.

We are raising funds for a replacement wheelchair lift so our members can attend meetings and receive services and needed support. Without the chair lift, our wheelchair-bound and disabled veterans do not have access to the building.

The American Legion is a volunteer organization and receives no financial assistance from the state or federal government. Unfortunately, there are no grants offered at this time to make our post handicapped accessible, and that is why we need help from our generous community.
