Support Saviour's Urgent Heart Surgery in India

Saviour Olamijulo, our precious son, nephew, cousin, son of our counsellor, mentor, friend and medical mission volunteer needs your help. Saviour was noticed to have fast breathing on the 4th day after his birth, which necessitated his admission in the Neonatal ward where he was observed. With several investigations carried out, the Pediatric Cardiologist Consultant revealed that he had a rare congenital heart disease, called Truncus Arteriosus(TA).

Truncus Arteriosus is a heart defect in which a single common blood vessel comes out of the heart, instead of the usual two vessels. In babies with a truncus arteriosus, oxygen-poor blood, and oxygen-rich blood are mixed as blood flows to the lungs and the rest of the body. As a result, too much blood goes to the lungs and the heart works harder to pump blood to the rest of the body. Also, instead of having both an aortic valve and a pulmonary valve, babies with truncus arteriosus have a single common valve (truncal valve). Saviour will be needing truncus repair surgery to correct this defect.

After several consultations with doctors and due to the urgency of this procedure, we have been advised to get the surgery done in India. The estimated amount needed is $32,000 for surgical procedures, period of stay in the hospital and other expenses.

Saviour’s parents are Nigerians with a total monthly take home of about $300 despite being professionals in their field. The current total savings of the parent can only cater for 3% of the estimated total amount needed. It is medically recommended that this surgery is done within eight (8) weeks of birth to prevent further complications and to save the life of the child affected. As of now, he is already a month old. To help Saviour have a healthy heart, we his parents, uncles, aunties etc need the passionate assistance of as many good-hearted people as possible to reach this goal.
