Support RE-PEAT!

We are RE-PEAT  a youth-led collective pushing for a peatland paradigm shift.

We want to change how people think about peatlands, in a way that is inclusive and respectful, re-generative, and thoughtful. We want people to re-consider their realities, and re-visit their ancestries, to re-gain a connection to the soil and to the water.

As RE-PEAT we believe in collaborating, educating, and re-imagining.

We are raising money to COLLABORATE

This year we hosted Planet Earth’s first 24-hour Online Global Peat-Fest.  In over 50 sessions, we listened to wetland soundscapes and stories, discussed peat-inspired poems, learned about the science of peatlands and their vital role in the ecological and climate crisis, and connected with cultures from New-Zealand to Canada from South Africa to Ireland.

After the success of this year, which was completely free for anyone who wanted to join, we want to make it an annual event. The money raised will allow us to wade even deeper in the future into one of the Earth's most unsung ecosystems: the humble peatland.  Also, if you support our mission, it will mean we can collaborate with even more inspiring people and organisations.

Get ready for Peat-Fest 2021! (and for the many inspiring events leading up to it).

And of course there is no climate justice without social justice. We are currently looking at ways of making RE-PEAT a more inclusive collective, and one of the ways we can do this is by offering compensation to speakers, creatives, and budding peat enthusiasts who might not have the resources to collaborate otherwise.

We are raising money to EDUCATE

We are currently writing a children's book about peatlands (aimed at 5-9 year olds).

But instead of adhering to the commonly portrayed view of peatlands - as ugly, scary wastelands, unworthy of thought & praise - we want to open children's eyes to the wonder and value of peatlands. We believe that ideas brought forward in children's books are often ones that stick with us through to adulthood - everyone remembers their favourite book as a child!

The money raised will help us write, illustrate, and publish our children's book.

We are raising money to RE-IMAGINE

We recently created The Peat Anthology, EU Edition. This is a collection of stories, letters, anecdotes, poems, art, and images from across Europe that have been sent to the Members of European Parliament before the upcoming EU Common Agricultural Policy (that receives almost 40% of the total EU budget).

We hope that these heartfelt and diverse relationships to peatlands, expressed in the Peat Anthology, will help policymakers re-imagine peatlands and make brave decisions for our future. Whatever is decided, the policy will stand from 2021-2027, a critical period for the global climate and ecology.

The money raised with your help will help fund future projects like the Peat Anthology. Next on our agenda is the UK edition!

It will also fund the running of we(t)binars, readings, and discussions, that all contribute to the re-imagining of peatlands.

We are devoting 10% of all donations to the FreeWestPapua campaign. The FWP campaign makes a very clear example of the connection between colonialism, capitalism, and climate change, as well as the importance of indigenous people being given a seat at the table. An example illustrating the intersectionality of this issue is that of West Papuan tropical peatlands, which are largely drained for palm oil plantations (owned by foreign timber companies) destined for western exports and consumption. To know more about the FWP campaign and this topic, visit the FreeWestPapua website and check out this eye-opening video.
