Eulan Ray Poss Jr. is one of the kindest and most honorable men I know. Our friendship began over 17 years ago when we flew helicopters together in the Philippines, and I’ve witnessed firsthand his generosity and strength of character. Ray’s life has been marked by service and heroism—he served as a Navy Aviation Boatswain’s Mate and was the helicopter pilot on the TV series MASH. His flying career spans from 1971 to the present day, and he’s rescued countless people, including dramatic saves from the Las Vegas MGM Grand and Hilton Hotels during devastating fires. Ray also instructed US Army pilots at Fort Wolters, preparing them for assignments in Vietnam.

Recently, Ray’s life took a difficult turn. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer and underwent surgery, leaving him physically and financially drained. About a year ago, Ray divorced his wife due to her gambling and infidelity, losing nearly everything except his house. To prevent foreclosure, Ray started driving for Door Dash, but at 83 years old, he should be enjoying retirement, not struggling to make ends meet. On top of all this, his wife left her three children with Ray to raise on his own. Despite these challenges, Ray remains grounded—literally and figuratively—as his illness has forced him to stop flying, the career he loves.

Ray is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He’s an honorable veteran who has given so much to our country and community, and now he needs our help.
