Elijah “Ej '' Easley is an artist, youth worker and community activist from North Minnealis. He became nationally known as “Pink Shirt Pizza Guy” when he took on “Umbrella Man” during the Minneapolis protests following George Floyd’s murder.
During the second day of the protests for George Floyd, Ej was handing out pizza when he noticed the “Umbrella Man” emerging from behind AutoZone where he began breaking windows with a hammer. Ej immediately confronted him, following him after he attempted to walk away. He followed him until he and other nearby protesters were hit with tear gas.

Ej has been involved in his community for a long time. In 2011, at the age of 18, he volunteered to be a camp leader and football coach for the first time. Since then he has made it his career to serve his community in several ways.
In response to COVID-19 he and his partners at MAC House teamed up with Brothers Empowered, serving food in North and South Minneapolis, which they still do every week.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has made things more difficult.
Most of the community work Ej does is for free. His primary work as a youth educator at Hospitality House has seen his hours cut significantly. Other programs and organizations he was involved with have closed down completely.
He is a father of two boys and has another child on the way. As much as he’s been giving to his community, now he needs his community to give back to him.
You might know Ej from his work with MAC House, supporting up-and-coming Twin Cities artists at live events. You might know EJ from North High School. You might know Ej from his work as an educator.
Or you might just know him as the brave Pink Shirt Pizza Guy.
