Palo Alto Solar and Racing (formally known as MSRC/PASV) is a student-led team dedicated to designing, building, and racing solar-powered vehicles. We're committed to advancing sustainable transportation technology while providing hands-on engineering experience to high school students in Palo Alto. We participate in the Solar Car Challenge which takes place at Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas. Two years ago, our team, with zero experience, took on the challenge of designing, researching, and fabricating a fully solar-powered car from scratch. Through our hard work and determination, we developed skills in metal fabrication, welding, and a design-thinking approach to build the first-ever solar car made by Bay Area high school students.
Our first solar car, The Beast, built in just 4 months, proved we could build a road-worthy solar vehicle from scratch and laid the foundation for our future innovations. The top speed of the car was 35 mph and could drive a range of 150 miles.
Our ambitious second-generation vehicle, La Vitesse, is currently under development for the upcoming season with improved aerodynamics and high-efficiency solar panels. She represents our growing expertise. First tested at Texas Motor Speedway, we continue to refine and enhance its capabilities. The top speed of the car is 60 mph with the drive range of 350 miles.
