Modern Electric Studio faces an urgent $6,300 garbage bill crisis that threatens to force us from our beloved 3330 Adeline location after 9 years. We've discovered that our garbage bill hasn't been paid by our landlord since 2016, creating a $23,000 balance for our entire fourplex—and legally, due to our status as the master address, we're responsible. While we refuse to pay the full amount we knew nothing about, we're committed to covering our fair quarter share of $6,300, but the city won't accept installments and we lack the reserves for this unexpected blow.
When Modern was burglarized 5 years ago, you helped us get back on our feet, and now we need that support again to save a space that's been a queer-safe, feminist third place for artists and collectors, contributing to social causes while putting out the best art we can. If you've ever had a good time here as an employee, collector, or patron, please consider contributing to our garbage fund. Get tattooed, buy art, or simply donate to our trash fund—any support helps us avoid losing Modern to what amounts to a clerical mistake. We promise to pay it forward and look forward to serving you for a tenth year.
