Our friend Marshall was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October 2019, at the age of 29, after months of increasing paralysis in his left hand and a seizure. He underwent surgery at Vancouver General Hospital on November 27th, only to be diagnosed with a Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a malignant (cancerous) brain tumor. This resulted in near complete paralysis of his dominant left hand.

Much is still unknown about Marshall’s tumor and it is moving aggressively. His doctors have sent off his pathology to New York for specialized testing to determine if it is more advanced than initially thought. It is not clear what treatments will be necessary moving forward.

In the meantime, Marshall started radiation and chemotherapy in January. He is expected to have the maximum radiation therapy (33 sessions) while receiving oral chemotherapy. After the radiation finishes, he will undergo at least 6 months of chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, Marshall’s work does not offer disability benefits, which has left him in a tough spot during his treatment. We would like to try and support him by alleviating some of the financial stress so he can focus on his recovery.
