Hello friends,

Last week I suffered a medical emergency that landed me in the ER. It started with some really intense bouts of vertigo that lasted a couple of days, then on the third day I was walking at a leisurely pace when I suddenly felt faint, short of breath and nauseous, my heart rate spiked and my chest hurt for no discernible reason. I was rushed to the ER where they ruled out a heart attack and stroke, then they did a CT scan of my head and ran a blood panel. The ER doctor said everything came back normal, and they cleared me to go home even though I kept feeling like I was going to pass out.

Three days later I saw my PCP, and she immediately spotted that my iron levels are so extremely low that my hemoglobin can only support my body at rest! At the moment I can’t even turn over in bed without getting really dizzy and I get short of breath just from walking. It really sucks!

My doctor put in an urgent referral for a series of iron infusions that I am hoping will get me back on my feet quickly, but I’m not sure how long it will take to start treatment, and in the meantime I need the help of my community to tide me over until I am able to work again since my job is very physical.
