Hi Friends,
Anyone that knows me knows that I never ask for help. It's not who I am, as I am typically the one to help others, and that makes me happy.
As much as I hate to do this, I'm asking for help for my rescue dog Marley. Marley was found barely clinging to life in a South Texas border town. She was rescued by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and spent 2.5 months at a vet's office in Texas. In November of 2024, Marley, now fully healthy, made her way to NY from Texas. A friend that works with RDRNYC put out a plea for a foster home. Although I was not looking to adopt another dog after losing my Calley in July, I agreed to foster. I wanted to pay off prior vet bills and have some time to heal my heart and wallet before welcoming another pup into my home. However, that foster agreement turned into a foster failure, and I adopted Marley within a week of fostering her. She is simply the most amazing, lovable dog for all that she has been through.
I took Marley to my vet on 11/30 to establish a new patient record, get bloodwork, exam, etc. Her bloodwork came back perfect, she was gaining weight, and Miss Marley looked to be very healthy. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I noticed a lump between her toes. I took her back to the vet on 12/31, and while there, Marley started bleeding from her lady parts with a mass protruding. They rushed her back, and a couple of doctors looked at her, and as they did, a piece of the mass broke off and was sent for biopsy. It came back a week later as TVT cancer (you can google it to learn more). The doctor ran another expensive lab to verify the results, and sure enough, it was TVT. The good news is it has a 95%+ cure rate.
Today, 2/5, we had a consultation, ultrasound, and 1st chemo treatment with Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham, NY. They are the only vet hospital in my area that does chemo treatments. Prior to this, I have spent between $1500 - $1800 on vet bills, not to mention diapers, pee pads, etc. Today's treatment (1 of 8) was over $1500, and she will have to go weekly for 7 more weeks @ $758/week.
I do have health insurance on Marley; however, it takes 3-4 weeks to process one claim, and she will have 4 claims a month. It's my hope that the insurance company will not give me a hard time with these claims. It's already been a fiasco trying to get the last lab claim processed.
My Care Credit will be maxed out in a couple more treatments. I need help! I'm not asking for help with the full amount, but just for help with the first couple of treatments until I start to get reimbursed. I know times are tough, and it kills me to do this, but this situation has stressed me out a lot. If you can help, it's greatly appreciated. If not, please send us your prayers for her complete recovery. Marley means the world to me.
I will attach the estimate and today's bill, which has been paid. Her next appointment is 2/13.
Thank you,
Marley & Marley's Mom
