My beloved cat Luna was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, and I’m asking my community to help us afford the treatment that will give her the best quality of life for the longest possible time.
Our Story
Luna and I have been together for fourteen and a half years. She came home with me the day I graduated from college, and she’s been by my side for so many ups and downs, interstate moves, new jobs, and phases of life. She’s my best friend, my most constant companion, and the cornerstone of my mental health. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and some days she is my only source of comfort. She has literally kept me alive through the times I’ve been at my lowest.
Right now, Luna’s quality of life is still good. She has a periodic dry cough because of the lung tumor (this is what brought us to the vet and led to her cancer diagnosis), but is otherwise her usual self: sassy, playful, chatty, and loving. She still likes to curl up on my lap, play peekaboo behind the shower curtain, and scream for treats (which she is currently being spoiled with).
I want to care for Luna the way she’s cared for me. She deserves the best care we can give her.
Luna’s Treatment Plan
Luna has a primary lung tumor, which thankfully has not metastasized outside of her lungs. The recommended treatment is surgery to remove the lung lobe where the tumor is located. This may be followed by chemotherapy, depending on what they find when they remove and analyze the tumor.
Costs
My partner and I have already paid the following costs for Luna’s cancer diagnosis and treatment:
- Bloodwork: $140.40
- Chest x-ray: $387
- CT scan with anesthesia: $2858.74
- Consultation fees (regular vet, oncology, surgery): $594
- Total so far: $3980.14
The estimate for Luna’s surgery is $5800 to $7200. After all the prior expenses, we can’t afford this by ourselves. It’s hard to do, but we have to ask for help.
Whether you donate or share this fundraiser, I’m so grateful for the support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
