Hola a todos:
Mi nombre es Daniela Gonsalves, y me dirijo a ustedes porque mi familia necesita ayuda mientras atravesamos uno de los momentos más difíciles que jamás hayamos enfrentado.
Recientemente, en Diciembre del 2025 nuestras vidas cambiaron de la noche a la mañana cuando a mi papá, Luis Eduardo Gonsalves, le diagnosticaron cáncer de próstata en etapa 4. Es un cáncer metastásico, lo que significa que ya se ha propagado de manera muy agresiva a múltiples ganglios linfáticos por todo su cuerpo, haciendo de esta una lucha aún más difícil.
Para aquellos que han tenido el placer de conocerlo o de estar en su presencia, esto ya lo saben: él es verdaderamente una persona única. Tiene la cualidad de hacer que la gente se sienta cómoda y segura, o de hacerlos sonreír incluso en sus días más difíciles, y siempre ha sido alguien en quien los demás pueden apoyarse sin dudarlo.
Pero para mí, él es mucho más que eso. Es mi héroe. No solo porque es mi papá o por todo lo que ha tenido que pasar, sino por la forma en que se comporta a través de todo ello. Sin importar cuán difícil se ponga la vida, él siempre ha elegido el humor, la fortaleza y la bondad.
Su historia no comenzó aquí, y tampoco terminará aquí. Ha vivido tantas cosas que no pueden expresarse simplemente con palabras, pero cada momento lo ha convertido en la persona que es hoy. Nos mantenemos positivos y con fe, sabiendo que esta es solo una batalla más para uno de los luchadores más fuertes de la vida.
Esta no es la primera vez que la vida lo pone a prueba, y para aquellos que no lo saben, desde el año 2003, él celebra dos cumpleaños. Este segundo cumpleaños proviene del momento en que Dios, la vida, el universo y su propia resiliencia le concedieron una segunda oportunidad de vivir.
Como pionero en la oposición venezolana contra el régimen, luchó por la democracia de Venezuela mucho antes de que el mundo comenzara a reconocer lo que estaba sucediendo en nuestro país. El 20 de agosto de 2003, desempeñó un papel fundamental en el movimiento. Se le confió la responsabilidad de las operaciones de campo y la dirección de la entrega de las firmas para el referéndum revocatorio contra Hugo Chávez, conocido como "El Reafirmazo", ante el Consejo Nacional Electoral. Esta fue solo una de las muchas misiones que emprendió en la lucha por la democracia.
La mayoría de los venezolanos recuerdan cuán grande fue la esperanza que aquel momento representó. Pero aquello no estuvo exento de consecuencias. Mi padre se vio obligado a abandonar su país natal tras ser perseguido, acosado, secuestrado y torturado por el régimen, simplemente por ser un verdadero patriota. Fue amenazado de muerte, y le dejaron claro que tanto su vida como la de nuestra familia corrían peligro. No solo se estaba marchando, estaba huyendo para salvar su vida, al tiempo que intentaba proteger a su familia.
Llegó a los Estados Unidos sin nada y tuvo que empezar de nuevo, completamente desde cero. Gracias a Dios, durante 23 años, ha construido una vida aquí a base de arduo trabajo, sacrificio y amor por su familia. Nunca se quejó, simplemente siguió adelante. Así es él, alguien que nunca se rinde.
Ya recibió una segunda oportunidad una vez, y desde entonces ha dedicado cada día a aprovecharla al máximo. Ahora, nos aferramos con fe a esa misma esperanza mientras él enfrenta esta nueva batalla.
Mantenemos viva la esperanza y seguimos de cerca cada etapa de su tratamiento. Desearía que eso, por sí solo, fuera suficiente, pero la realidad es que la carga económica se ha vuelto abrumadora. Cada centavo cuenta, y sus donaciones ayudarán a cubrir sus facturas médicas, los medicamentos, los gastos cotidianos y otros costos relacionados con su tratamiento y cuidados mientras él no pueda trabajar.
Desearía no tener que pedir ayuda, pero si les es posible colaborar de alguna manera, ya sea con sus oraciones, haciendo una donación o simplemente compartiendo este mensaje, significaría el mundo para nosotros. My name is Daniela Gonsalves, and I’m reaching out because my family needs help as we go through one of the hardest times we’ve ever faced.
Last December, our lives changed overnight when my dad, Luis Eduardo Gonsalves, was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. It is metastatic, meaning the cancer has already spread very aggressively to multiple lymph nodes throughout his body, making this an even more difficult fight.
For those who have had the pleasure of knowing him or being in his presence, you already know this, but he is truly one of a kind. He has a way of making people feel comfortable and safe, or making them smile even on their hardest days, and he has always been someone others can lean on without hesitation.
But to me, he is so much more than that. He is my hero. Not just because he is my dad or because of everything he has been through, but because of the way he carries himself through it all. No matter how difficult life gets, he has always chosen humor, strength, and kindness.
His story didn’t begin here, and it won’t end here either. There’s so much he’s lived through that can’t fully be put into words, but every moment has made him who he is today. We’re staying positive, knowing this is just another battle for one of life’s strongest fighters.
This is not the first time life has tested him, and for those who don’t know, since 2003, he has celebrated two birthdays. This second birthday comes from the moment God, life, the universe, and his own resilience gave him a second chance at life.
As a pioneer in the Venezuelan opposition against the regime, he was fighting for Venezuela’s democracy long before the world began to recognize what was happening in our country. On August 20, 2003, he played a pivotal role in the movement. He was entrusted with managing field operations and leading the delivery of the signatures for the recall referendum against Hugo Chávez, known as El Reafirmazo, to the Consejo Nacional Electoral. This was just one of many missions he took on in the fight for democracy.
Most Venezuelans remember how much of a beacon of hope that moment was. But it didn’t come without consequences. My dad was forced to leave his home country, after being chased, persecuted, kidnapped and tortured by the regime for being a true patriot. He was threatened with death, and they made it clear that his life and our family’s lives were in danger. He wasn’t just leaving, he was running for his life while trying to protect his family.
He came to the United States with nothing and had to start over completely from zero. For 23 years, thanks to God, he has built a life here through hard work, sacrifice, and love for his family. He never complained. He just kept going. That’s who he is. Someone who doesn’t quit.
He’s already been given a second chance once, and he’s spent every day since then making the most of it. Now, we’re holding onto that same hope as he faces this fight.
We are staying hopeful, with faith, and following every step of his treatment. I wish that alone could be enough, but the reality is that the financial burden has become overwhelming. Every cent counts and your donations will help cover his medical bills, medications (not covered by his insurance), daily living expenses, and other costs related to his treatment and care while he is unable to work.
