My name is Luis de Leon, the creator, owner, editor and writer of the local news website in Spanish called La Esquina (The Corner). This project was born out of the need to keep my local Latinx community informed of important news and other relevant information in real time, with ease of access. Now more than ever, during the pandemic, this personal project has become more important as a mechanism that publishes immediate, local news and resources to its readers. I have personally maintained this project for several years, completely free of charge to all readers because I believe in service to the community, and that it is important to give what we can. This has been my grain of sand to my Latina community here in Kentucky.


During all these years this site has been sustained by my own personal funds, readers have free access to information. I have  done this through the creative use of minimal resources to inform others through text, photography, audio and video. However, in times of COVID-19, better technology is required, including access to other programs that require paid subscriptions to software and improved equipment. Since I am also a freelance musician, I used to fund this through paid gigs. These concerts are no longer able to happen and so I no longer have an independent fund that I can use to cover the ongoing costs that La Esquina has, including the renewal of the posting site, payments for apps, etc.

This is why, today, I am reaching out to ask for your support so that I can continue with this project, to afford to continue to update the teca required and continue with my project to keep my community up to date through La Equina.

I am asking for montear donaciones, if you are able to give any amount, or, if you are a business owner you can use my platform to advertise and pay a small sponsorship fee or you can also share this message with your social networks.

Soy Luis de Leon, el creador, dueño y escritor de La Esquina, un sitio de noticias en internet en español que nació por la necesidad de informar a la comunidad latina en tiempo real. En el tiempo de la pandemia, se ha vuelto más valioso como un medio que da información local e inmediata a sus lectores. Lo he hecho por varios años, completamente gratis porque creo en el servicio a la comunidad, y que es importante dar de lo que podemos. Ha sido mi granito de arena a mi comunidad acá en Kentucky.

Desde hace un par de años este sitio se realiza con fondos personales, los lectores tienen acceso gratis a la información. He realizado este trabajo con los mínimos recursos y utilizando la creatividad para informar en texto, fotografía, audio y video. Sin embargo en tiempos de COVID-19 se requiere una mejor tecnología, acceso a otros programas que en su mayoría son pagados y requieren de mejor equipo. Ya que soy también un músico freelance, mis entradas de este trabajo ya no existen y por ende, ya no tengo una fuente independiente para contribuir a los gastos que tenga La Esquina, tal como la renovación del sitio de posting, para pagara a los apps y software que utilizo, etc.

De esta cuenta hoy quiero pedir tu apoyo para que yo puedo seguir con este proyecto, para la compra de tecnología y así continuar informando a la comunidad latina desde nuestra Esquina.
