Support Robert Kevin Walsh's Cancer Surgery Recovery

My name is Darla, and I am running the fundraising for my friend Kevin Walsh. Kevin is an all-around Good Guy who has developed a small, malignant, cancerous tumor on his pancreas, easily handled with prompt surgery. He is big-hearted and ruled by a half-Maine Coon feline. Kevin has been active for decades, online and in IRL, in many SF and gaming communities (Royal Manticore Navy, Callahan's, Traveler, etc). He has been a member of an online group of friends for the last 10+ years who are family of the heart.

Kevin needs surgery and must take 6-8 weeks off work to recover. The thing is, pancreatic cancer is survivable when diagnosed and TREATED early, as in Kevin's case. Left untended, it becomes a death sentence - think Steve Jobs, who died of it after being diagnosed early but foolishly eschewing conventional medicine and pursuing alternative treatments until it was too late.

Kevin is a highly reliable employee and fiscally responsible. The amount of the fundraiser was carefully calculated after investigating other forms of support for the time he won't be able to work. (For example, he does not qualify for his employer’s temporary disability insurance.) The amount is based on the minimum needed to keep his rent and incidental expenses paid when he is out of work.
