Many of our friends and family have asked how to support my dad, Ken Cole, as he begins to battle pancreatic cancer. At this time, we're still figuring a lot of things out, and focused on how to move through this new challenge in the best way possible.
There are many doctors involved, which we are thankful for. He will now have a lot of appointments, trips to Grand Rapids, chemotherapy and medications to give this battle a good shot. We're trying traditional approaches as well as anything else available.
Obviously, as a family we will make sure he's well cared for. But if you feel called to help, here are some ways to participate.
1. Give financially to this Go Find Me page to help with the costs of health insurance deductibles, co-pays, gas for the car, nutritional supplements etc. This will also help to support my mom during the time she needs to be off work.
2. Stay tuned for an opportunity to provide a meal for my mom and dad. High protein, low fat foods are recommended at this time. Meals that can be frozen and reheated are a bonus!
3. Pray specifically for these things:
a. He will tolerate the chemotherapy. We pray for the least amount of side effects as possible.
b. The chemotherapy will shrink the tumor and remove it from the surrounding blood vessels. If it moves away from the vein and artery he can possibly have surgery in the future.
c. More good days than bad days. Pray that he won't get discouraged by setbacks, chemo side effects and whatever other bumps come along the way.
d. His appetite to return and his weight to stabilize.
e. He will feel loved and supported everyday. He will feel the peace of God no matter what happens.
