Help Kaiya Run Again- ACL Surgery Fund

Hey friends, we are looking for help to cover the surgery cost for our beloved Kaiya. Over the past year she has progressively lost more mobility in both hind legs due to ACL injuries. It was a faint limp at first on one leg but now she is non weight bearing on the left leg and her right has a less significant tear but is still injured. Unfortunately our hope of rest and limiting her mobility for healing has not worked over the past year and she needs more aggressive treatment in the form of surgery to allow her to walk again. They will not be able to operate on both legs at once as she will need to keep weight off of the surgical leg during recovery, so she will need two separate surgeries that could total over $10,000.

If you have met Kaiya, you know how much of a lover she is. She greets anyone she knows (or doesn’t know) with happy squeals and often collapses at your feet out of excitement and to show you how much she loves you and has missed you (even if it has only been a few hours).

Kaiya has been a part of our family for 6 years. We adopted her as a rescue from an animal shelter where she was found emaciated and on the brink of death, weighing only 20 pounds fully grown when she was found (she should weigh 55-60 lbs). Despite not being loved or taken care of in her past, she chose to forgive and love people so well- we actually learned after we named her that her name, Kaiya, means forgiveness in Japanese.

She has been our best adventure buddy, climbing 10 14ers in Colorado and has hiked and backpacked countless miles. She is such an important part of our family and we want to do everything we can do allow her to run, play and get the zoomies again.

Kaiya has been the best thing that has happened to our family and recently we added a new member to our family, Levi, our first baby boy who is now almost 9 months old. She has been so incredibly kind and gentle with him and we want to give them as much time together as possible. It’s been devastating to see Kaiya in pain and unable to walk, and we are determined to do what we can to help her heal and get back to her joyful self. She’s already beat cancer and we want to give her every chance to make a full recovery. If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, or even just share this page, we would be forever grateful.
