Support Jose and the family as he continues treatments
Spende geschützt
Life turned upside down...that's what happened June 3rd, 2024 when Jose received his diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. As you can imagine, going from a perfectly healthy 34 year old to being told you have an aggressive form of leukemia that is resistant to chemo and prone to relapse was quite a shock. Jose is a wonderful husband and father to four children (6, 4, 2, and 6 months). His greatest concern throughout this journey has been for his family.
He has fought well and after the first round of intensive chemo was declared in remission. For this, we are extremely grateful! However, this is not the end. There is a long journey ahead towards being cured. He will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant sometime in September. This will give him the best possible outcome for the cancer to not return. Due to insurance requirements they will not be able to have the transplant done in Greenville and will need to travel to have it done at MUSC in Charleston. Current dates are being worked out as a decision is being made on a donor. The transplant requires an 100 day recovery. The first 3-4 weeks of recovery will be in the hospital. The rest of this time will need to be spent in the Charleston area to be close for his follow-up appointments and check-ins to keep an eye out for any adverse effects.
He will need to have a 24/7 caregiver, which Rebecca will be in that role. They do not want to be apart from their children for such a long period of time, so the family will be moving to Charleston for the duration of the transplant process. This of course will incur quite a bit of financial expense in a time where they have less income and are paying not only for their everyday expenses, but the addition of a rental home in Charleston.
To support them during this difficult time we are asking you to help defray the financial burden of their housing while they do their best to fight for a return to good health for Jose. Any funds above the goal will be set aside to pay for the out of pocket health expenses they will incur during the year of recovery after transplant.
Jose is known for his warmth, his ability to make you feel cared for. He truly loves those around him. He never ceases to bring light and laughter into the lives of those he is around. Let's use this as opportunity to give back and support him and his family in this time of need.
Thank you in advance for your support to their family!
