Hi, my name is Alex and I'm fundraising for our dear friends Jesse and Raelin, and more specifically, their son, Harlan. Harlan is just over 13 months old and recently was battling an extended fever and was very lethargic. Harlan had visited urgent care a couple of times and finally, an emergency room visit revealed some excess fluid in his brain, which resulted in an infection. Harlan was rushed to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis where they operated and removed the fluid from his brain. The culture revealed the infection was meningitis. The doctor's believe the reason why the infection happened in the first place is due to a missing bone in the nasal cavity of his skull. The infection needs to be gone completely before they can take a bone fragment from elsewhere and place it in the spot where the bone is missing. The anticipated time for the infection to clear is 3-4 weeks, followed by another operation for the bone fragment to be placed in his nasal cavity. In addition to that, Harlan had an auditory test done which showed a severe loss of hearing in his right ear to the point where a hearing aid wouldn't help, but a cochlear implant could. He has lost a bit of his strength and fine motor skills, which Harlan will have to build back up following all of this. At this point, no tests are showing damage to Harlan's brain, thank goodness. The surgery for the bone replacement is quite invasive, but Jesse and Raelin are confident in the doctors that will be performing the operation. There are still more tests and procedures to be done, but Harlan is as tough as they come! With all of the tests, procedures, and the lengthy stay at the hospital, it will likely put some financial stress on Jesse and Raelin. The last thing I want them to think about is the financials with all of this. Your donation would allow Jesse and Raelin to not stress about the financial impact, and focus more on Harlan's recovery and healing. We are praying for you all, Jesse, Raelin, and Harlan.
