As you may know Hannah has Crohn’s disease and a few weeks ago her symptoms became extreme so she went to an ER in Las Vegas near her home. A CT scan was done and the doctor said there was a small abscess that only needed antibiotics and pain medication. Over the next four days Hannah’s pain and other symptoms became more severe, so she went back to the ER. She was admitted to the hospital & they gave her intravenous double antibiotics and pain medications, but she continued to get worse. During this time Hannah questioned the staff about a few things, including the IV port in her arm which was red & painful, and had hardened tissue around it. They said it was fine and no action was taken. Later they realized that all of her antibiotics and pain medications had been injected under her skin and not into a vein.
As Hannah continued to get worse she asked for a second opinion. A general surgeon was sent and he said that he saw no reason for surgery based on the CT scan. Even though her condition worsened they seemed to have no solutions, and it became clear that her health would be in jeopardy if she stayed at this hospital.
Hannah’s parents took her from the hospital and suggested going to Hoag hospital in California, known for their skilled Crohn’s specialists. Hannah objected based on the fact the hospital was not in network, and the bills would be too high, but since the only other in network options were other poorly ranked local hospitals, she relented. Shortly after arriving at Hoag hospital the ER doctor found an abscess and said Hannah needed emergency surgery. Hannah and her parents cried tears of relief that she was finally getting the help she needed. Hannah is still recovering from this abscess and fistula surgery, but thanks to the doctors and nurses at Hoag she will be ok.
Hannah’s bills for medical tests, emergency surgery and her hospital stay have accumulated to quite an overwhelming amount since they were out of pocket in California. This is why we are establishing this GoFundMe page. Hannah wants to make sure that no one feels obligated to donate towards her medical bills, but If you feel led to give, we would greatly appreciate your help.
