Support Fund For Two Transgender Women

Donation protected
On February 08, 2021, police arrested transgender women in Douala on charges of:

- Homosexuality
- Private indecent assault
- Lack of National identity card

On February 10, all efforts to secure their release at the court of first instance in Douala were futile, and the case has been postponed to March 10, 2021. Shakiro and Patricia are currently in pre-trial detention at the notorious New Bell prison where they are being subjected to torture and verbal abuse by prison guards and other prisoners.

Based on these unfortunate circumstances, we are raising £1500 to support these individuals during these trying times.

Money raised through this platform would be used to ensure they have basic needs like food, health care and transportation for their lawyer(s) who has generously agreed to handle the case pro bono.

We are most grateful in advance for all incoming contributions.

Note: Gofundme created by Bandy Kiki ( Legally known as Emily Banadzem) in collaboration with Working For Wellbeing Cameroon (WFW) - a local non-profit organization working to uphold equality in rights and access to healthcare for all LGBT+ persons around Cameroon.

Update:
On May 11, Patricia and Shakiro received the maximum sentence of five years in prison and fines of 200,000 CFA francs for "attempted homosexuality," public indecency and failing to carry identification.

Update:
We have decided to close this fundraiser after an application to release Patricia and Shakiro pending appeal was accepted on July 13, 2021. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and shared.
