Support for Sandy: Single mom fighting cancer

My name is Louise, a breast cancer survivor, and I am fundraising on behalf of my friend Sandy.

Sandy, a single mom with a young daughter, was recently diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. She has gone through a double mastectomy and is now facing chemotherapy and a long recovery ahead.

For some of you this is the first you may be hearing of her news - she is rightfully proud and “does not want to make her friends feel uncomfortable or sad around her” and resisted asking for help. I’ve personally experienced cancer and been in a similar situation, and was blessed to get the help I needed. Now, I want to pay it forward, so am asking for your help to do this.

Unfortunately, her insurance did not cover a large part of her treatment, leaving her with insurmountable medical bills. On top of this, although she now has a supportive employer and a job she loves, she is a contract employee and does not get any paid time off for medical or sick leave. It’s been, and will be in the future, necessary for her to take significant time off for treatment and recovery, with no pay.

She has worked so hard to come back from a very difficult situation over the past several years, completely on her own, to provide for her daughter and buy a home of their own. This is a promise she made to her daughter when she was 5 years old. The savings she’s built has been quickly depleted during this current hardship.

Please help Sandy get through this without the very real worry of losing her home and everything she’s worked so hard for. The funds raised here will help cover medical expenses and the time away from work she will need to focus on her healing.
