Everlys mommy is my niece, Kimberly and her daddy is josh, Kimberly’s husband. And this is their story. At Kimberly’s 20 week pregnancy appointment they found out that Everly had enlarged ventricles of the brain. One side was in the severe range and the other side was in the mild range. At this time they were referred to high risk doctors. During the first visit they soon found out there were more issues than just the ventricles. The high risk Dr. found a murmur and realized there was something wrong with Everlys heart. They were then referred to a pediatric cardiologist and Everly was soon diagnosed with a coarctation of the aorta and a VSD(ventricular septal defect) which would require open heart surgery to repair. The number one goal was to carry Everly full term and within a few days Of birth fix the coarctation of the aorta. Then when Everly reached 2-3 months of age they would schedule the open heart surgery. All those plans were cancelled when Everly had to be taken at 32 weeks 5 days due to her mommy having severe preeclampsia. Everly was tiny and weighed in at 3lbs 3oz. Once Everly was delivered her Dr. did an echo and they decided to try to get her to 1 month of age and then do both surgeries together. So Kimberly, Josh and Everly will be traveling to Vanderbilt very soon for her open heart surgery. Kimberly has been out of work since September 20th, Josh and her both are traveling daily to and from the hospital to spend time with their daughter. We have no idea when Kimberly will be able to return to work. Josh has had to take off several days to be with Kimberly and Everly and will be out of work for a while when they travel to Vanderbilt. Everly could be at Vanderbilt for up to 2 months and then will they will travel back to UT Hospital NICU and remain there until she is stable enough to go home. This time off and their travel
expenses will add to the financial impact of Everlys treatment. I hope we can rally around them now, in their moment of need. Please keep Everly, Kimberly and Josh in your thoughts and prayer as they go through this and thank you in advance for any other support you can offer.
